A Camera Can Be a Dangerous Thing …

in the hands of the untrained.  I’m all for experimenting (in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever used the same camera settings twice), but sometimes you just don’t get what you envision.  With a whole lot of very bad photos to deal with, I attempted to go all artsy for this post.  Please be kind.  ;)

Outfit 1:

Top:  Clu

Skirt:  YSL

Shoes:  Alexander McQueen

Outfit 2:

Sweater:  Anthropologie

Pants:  Target

Booties:  Alexander Wang

I had several accessories to show you in both sets of photos, but those pictures couldn’t be saved … at all.  I expect I’ll reshoot these outfits at a later date, with more tried and true camera settings.

Thanks for reading.  More soon.  — Carole

My Tucker for Target pieces arrived and I post the first item from my order …

Pls. note that the skirt shows some crazy shadows from a nearby plant – it’s actually a solid wool.  Forgive the unflattering use of light.

Anthropologie Cartography Cardigan

Today we go from this …

to this …

Though it’s a big Anthropologie bag that once held several items, nearly everything was returned except for this … the Cartography Cardigan by Guinevere.  Here I wear the cardigan backwards and with my pirate map skirt.

I’ve had a thing for map clothing for some time, so when I saw this cardigan, I felt like I could give it a good home.  :)   Here are some accessories photos …

As you can see, it was windy today …

cardigan:  Anthropologie

skirt:  Alexander McQueen

necklace:  Forever 21

bracelet:  Moschino Cheap and Chic

watch:  Michele

shoes:  Prada

That’s all for now.  Lanvin coming soon.  — Carole

Tree Hugging and Sun Worship

In today’s post, I wear one of the items I purchased from Zac Posen for Target.  I actually bought most of the ZP4T items but expect to return nearly all of them.  There’s not anything wrong with the items — it’s just that I think I’m experiencing Designer for Target fatigue.  I’ve bought from nearly all of the “collections” and I enjoy a cheap/fast fashion thrill just like anyone else, but I think I have achieved burnout.

Anyway, I barely remembered any of the items after seeing the Target lookbook early in the press release process, so I was surprised when I went to buy that I didn’t recall this dress.  You see, I used to own the dress I’m going to show you.  My Target dress is cut from the same (or very nearly so)  pattern created to make the runway dress …

This dress is from Spring 2003 and is in a different print and fabrication than the Target dress, but is very, very nearly the same dress in terms of cut.  It was my first Zac Posen purchase and because I am so lazy about trying on in store, I went with the SA’s recommendation to size up.  Well, that was wrong (ZP cuts at the same sizing as most of the Italians BTW) and when I returned the dress, my size was long gone.  So, no ZP for me at that time.  Now, of course, I’m quite pleased with that outcome because the Target dress is priced far more nicely and is almost as pretty as the “real” one.  :)

I’ve broken this post into two “venues”.  First up is the tree hugging portion …

In the previous pictures, I wore the dress cinched with a Nordstom belt.  Since I didn’t like how it photographed, I removed the belt for the sun worship series …

I also wore red patent pumps from Alexander McQueen.

See you soon!  — Carole

I felt it appropriate to break out another McQueen piece in honor of the showing of McQueen’s final collection yesterday.  It’s a leather dress from the Fall 2000 season.  The name of the collection was, “Eshu“, and IIRC it was about a woman from Victorian era Europe who traveled to Africa.  Slowly the African culture melded with her own culture and completely took over.  Here are some pictures …

I had to “hike” the dress up, which is why it looks a little funky around the stomach and torso areas.  You see, I don’t have a model length torso.   If I find the right tailor, I might have the length fitted to my torso.  A tricky proposition though, since the dress can’t be replaced.  I’ll have to think about it.

Anyway, the most outstanding part of this dress is the back.  I can’t show you that part on me because I couldn’t get the dress fastened in the back.  It has complicated belting and buttons which are very hard to fasten.  Since I managed to get only one button fastened, it didn’t look right.  I normally *can* dress myself, but this is one case where I needed Mr. Sasy’s help and he wasn’t here when I shot these pictures.  Instead, I will show you the runway picture of the back of the dress …

Pretty amazing, huh?

I leave you today with some pictures of McQueen’s final collection (Fall 2010) …

Gorgeous, aren’t they?
