Undercover Ballerina

Nothing thrills me more than ballerina style dresses and trench coats, so it was only a matter of time until I combined the two.  I start off today’s post with the ballerina portion by wearing a dress from Comme des Garçons …

This is my first Comme des Garçons piece.  I really love its look with the ballerina-esque skirt and the top portion of the dress, which is a wool-blend, asymmetric “square”.  I just wish it was a little better constructed, especially in consideration of its price.  The quality is not what I’m used to, with respect to designer clothing.  I hope I just bought a “bum” piece because I’d hate to think that all Comme is like this.  At any rate, I missed my deadline to return it, so it’s mine now.

Enough complaining and on with the undercover portion of this post.  There’s nothing like a trench coat to invoke visions of spies, private detectives, and so on.  It also got very cold while I was shooting my pictures, so I was glad to hurry up and put the trench on …

And, here I do some surveillance …

With an iPhone?  It’s all I had.  :/

My ballet pink trench is by Ralph (Ralph Lauren) and my shoes are Missoni.

I’m so thrilled — my Stella McCartney dress arrived that I pre-ordered about a million years ago and I’m going to wear it tonight on my date with Mr. Sasy …

I have a penchant for animal print clothing and the zebra on this dress is so darling — I think he looks so friendly and sweet.  I adore the asymmetry of the zebra print, as well as, how the dress is partly slouchy and partly fitted.  I feel that this is a flattering silhouette for my frame.

Anyway, it will get chilly tonight, so I’ll bring a red silk coat  …

The coat and shoes are by Moschino.

A New Dress in the Great Outdoors

OK.  Maybe not the great outdoors, but I did take some more pictures in my back yard.  :)   I had better luck today with my shoot as no bees dared to show themselves while I was out there.  I have to say that taking pictures outside is so much easier than doing them inside.  I guess that’s why it’s such a popular venue for bloggers.  As long as the weather doesn’t get too hot or until I get unenthused or the bees return, I’ll likely do some more pictures outside.

I picked up a gorgeous little dress last week that I’d like to share with you …

The dress is from Moschino Cheap and Chic and I consider it to be the prettiest dress I own.  I wear it here with Chloe wedges that I picked up from NM Last Call a couple of weeks ago …

I also wear a turquoise (and other stones) necklace from Steven Dweck and a hat from Kokin …

It’s very late as I post this, so I’m off to bed now.  See you soon.  — Carole

The Birds and The Bees

I took some outside pictures today.  After the experience, I recall why I don’t do this very often.  Like nearly everyone in California, we have a yard full of citrus trees.  The weather here has been just gorgeous, so everything is in bloom.  The day started out just fine, but after a few minutes … someone else became attracted to the lovely citrus trees  …  BEES!!  Bumble bees to be exact.  Bumble bees are very territorial, so two of them decided to fight.  I bravely kept going since they weren’t interested in me.  Foolish me.  After the bees tired of each other, they decided to come after me!!  I slowly and carefully made my way back inside the house and waited for them to go away.

I courageously decided to try again to shoot outside.  I think the bees went away, but I’m certain I still heard a lot of buzzing.  I began again to shoot and heard terrible squawking.  I looked up and saw two birds having it out, right above my head.  You know, it’s never a good thing to have birds over your head — you’re just asking for trouble.  I took the birds and the bees as a bad omen and came back inside to shoot.  So today’s post has both indoor and outdoor pictures.  Here they are …

The first item I want to show you is my new shoes from f21.  These sold out twice before I was able to grab a pair for myself.  And, last I checked, this third batch sold out too.  They are so pretty and spring-like, I had to have a pair when they reappeared on the site.

Now I take the “action” back inside …

I wear my pretty new shoes with a dress from UK high street brand, Oasis.  I’ve worn this dress in other posts on my blog, so I’ll spare you the musing and so forth that usually accompanies blog posts … this time.  :)

The next item I want to show you is my new trench coat from ASOS.  When I saw this trench, I became so excited – something that’s very hard for me to do because I have at least a dozen trench coats already.  But, you see, this coat is a very inspired by Burberry Trench coat — current season Burberry, to boot.

The current season Burberry …

The twisted knots at the bottom of the Burberry are placed on the shoulders of the ASOS coat, which I like better than the Burberry placement.  Plus, the ASOS coat is pink.  I can make an exception almost always to buy something if it’s pink.

Merci, Monsieur Gaultier (A Gaultier For Target Review)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was overcome with joy when I first heard that Jean Paul Gaultier, whose designs I adore, would be joining with Target for a designer collaboration.  I already posted the daisy halter dress (from this collaboration) and since I’ve received the rest of my items, I am ready to post those too.

The first item is the striped shirt dress

As you can see, I didn’t really care to wear the shrug (that came attached to the dress) as a shrug.  I think it makes a quirky belt though.  :)   I also wear a Moschino boucle ruffle skirt, shoes by Marni, and a necklace from Devon Leigh.

The second item is the white shirt that is almost identical to the Fall 2009 real-deal Gaultier …

The “real deal” …

As you can see from the Neiman Marcus stock picture, the major difference between my shirt from Target and the Gaultier shirt is the pocket that is on the regular Gaultier.  I am very happy to have this shirt because I meant to get the “real one” from last fall, but I forgot.  I also wear a skirt from Akris Punto, Mikimoto black pearls, a belt from Peter Som, Donna Karan tights, and Prada shoes.

Next, is the face shirt

I debated for a little while as to whether I was going to keep this item or not.  As you can see though, I am keeping it (if I weren’t, I wouldn’t post it).  Prints, such as this one, aren’t the type of thing I choose normally, but there is something about it that calls to me.  I also wear a skirt from Target and Bruno Frisoni shoes.

I saved the best for last.  I thought that the suit summed up the work of JPG the best of all the pieces offered from this collection.  I chose the shorts, instead of the skirt, and here are the pictures …

To me, this suit is quintessential Gaultier.  He nearly always does a pinstriped suit or outerwear every fall.  I wore it with a belt from Jean Paul Gaultier and YSL booties.

Overall, I am very pleased with these pieces from Target.  The quality is exactly what I expected at these price points.
