Anthropologie Two Paths Killer

This season, Anthropologie has put out the cutest Trench coat, the Two Paths Trench.  This is the coat of the moment (there must be a gazillion blog and message board posts about it) and I agree with everyone’s assessments, it is divine!  If you’re a reader of my blog, then you know that Anthro has not managed to get their claws into me yet.  It’s not that I don’t like their things (I do!), I just never seem to get around to getting anything from there.  I have to say, the Two Paths Trench almost changed my Anthro-less existence.  I was all set to order when I remembered that I have a trench that is just a little too similar to the Two Paths for me to justify its purchase.  Let’s look at some pictures …

In case you haven’t seen it, the Two Paths Trench from Anthro …

My coat, the Two Paths killer …

Mr. Sasy strikes again while I was shooting these pictures, hence, the goofy expressions.  Kindly ignore please.  Also, if you can overlook my bad lighting (I’m experimenting right now and have some way to go), I’d appreciate that too.

My RED Valentino trench is not identical to the Anthro coat, of course.  But if something I’m considering reminds me even slightly of something I already have, it’s usually a deal-breaker for me.  There are just too many other things to choose that I don’t already have and want.  Under the coat, I wear a Moschino Cheap and Chic dress in an abstract print, which is unusual for me since I’m such a lover of floral prints, and Alexander McQueen shoes.

Now, if Anthro decides to do a version of this beauty, I’m on board for sure …

Triple Lace Booties and a Dream is Born

When I first saw these LAMB Triple Lace booties, my heart skipped with joy. Finally, a shoe manufacturer who cuts small enough to give me a shot at some Ann D -esque Triple Lace footwear. I’m sized out of Ann Demeulemeester shoes every time, so I’m pretty excited to have these new LAMB “Valisa” booties.

Cute, huh?

Every now and then, I become enamored with the offerings at Forever 21. Now is one of those times. I’ve been in the store twice within the last week. Call me a glutton for punishment. :) Anyway, I became intrigued with this dress, so I bought it …

Now, I’ll be the first to admit there’s a lot wrong with it, BUT it is Swiss Dotted tulle, which I have a weakness for. A few days after purchasing the dress, I saw some of the F/W 2010 collections from NYFW and saw this beauty from Oscar de la Renta …

A dream was born. No doubt it’s somewhat of a distance between f21 and ODLR, but I believe it’s doable. I’m in the process of working on it and show you my progress so far …

They say, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” I’ve definitely broken inertia and have removed the bow at the bottom of the dress and cut off the lace ruffles around the neck line. Next, I’ll pick up a better chemise than the one I’m wearing here, which is from Target, and add a bow belt and another Swiss Dot top underneath the dress. I’ll post pictures again when it’s finished.

Alexander the Great: Celebrating the Work of Lee McQueen

Tragically, we’ve lost the very best fashion designer/artist/genius of our time, Lee Alexander McQueen.  Since everything that can be written about this horrific event has been written already, I celebrate Lee McQueen’s work today using a couple of pieces I have managed to collect over the years for myself.

When I started shooting the pictures for this post, I felt very somber.  (I thought about posting the somber shots, but decided not to because sadness won’t bring him back and I knew I could make better pictures if I didn’t look so solemn.) Anyway, I quickly “perked up” and I don’t feel bad or guilty about that because I believe that Lee was the sort of person who would rather be remembered with joy, instead of sadness.

First up is my cherished “pirate skirt” from S/S 2006.  This piece was not shown on the runway, but is an iconic piece, nonetheless.  If you read my blog regularly, you know how excited I was to find this at the Neiman Marcus Last Call Center (Mr. Sasy was with me when I bought the skirt and thought I was having a seizure, I was trembling so much).  Anyway, this skirt was sitting there in all its pristine glory calling to me and became my first purchase at our new at the time NM Last Call.

With my McQueen “pirate skirt”, I wore a sweater from Piazza Sempione, a necklace from Alison Mezey, and shoes from Prada.

The next piece in today’s post is my very first McQueen purchase.  It is a lace skirt from the S/S 1999 collection titled, “Untitled.”

How It Looked on the Runway

How I Wear It

“Pink Flowers for the Pink Sheep” (How Lee referred to himself in an interview — as “The pink sheep of the family.”)

With my McQueen lace skirt, I wore a top from Prada Sport, a necklace from Roberto Coin (given to me for Valentine’s Day by Mr. Sasy and which I’m still working on getting a decent picture of), and shoes from Alexander McQueen.

I do have several more McQueen pieces, that have not appeared on the blog as today’s pieces have previously, that I may photograph for posting here.  Unfortunately, most of these pieces are in storage, so they are not easy to access.  We’ll see how motivated I get.  :)

In perhaps a bit of good news, WWD reports, “The Alexander McQueen business will go on despite the suicide last week of its founder and creative director, said Robert Polet, president and chief executive officer of Gucci Group.” So, it looks like Lee’s final work will be produced for next season.

Better late than never, right?  I have been incredibly busy, so (timely) posting and reading/commenting my favorite blogs were on the back burner last week.  Anyway, here’s my Valentine’s Day post.  I have had this cute trench coat since 2005 and wore it for the first time this Valentine’s Day.  I think it was appropriate (in a cheesy sort of way) for the occasion …

Under the coat …

I wore a Moschino Cheap and Chic trench coat, a cashmere sweater and silk skirt from Ralph Lauren, and metallic Python shoes from Chloe.  I meant to get a picture of my Valentine’s gift from Mr. Sasy – though I wear it here, you can’t see it because my hair is in the way.  I’ll get the photo next time.

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day too.  See you soon.  — Carole

Girl and Dog: A Love Story

I first posted this “story” on July 11, 2008.  It was (and still is) meant to be a tribute to my precious dog, Bear, who passed away on July 5, 2008.  I removed it from my blog a long time ago because I was so very, very sad and it really showed in the pictures.  Thoughts of reposting this “story” have been nagging at me for the past few months, so I decided it was time.  I reshot all the pictures and changed some of the clothes.

If you’re a dog owner (or guardian, if you prefer), then you’ll understand completely about the concept of a “once in a lifetime” dog.  Bear was my first dog and my “once in a lifetime” dog.  We had 14 wonderful years together and I wish we’d had more.  I will love and miss him always, but I am (finally) at the point where I no longer mourn his death, but instead, celebrate his living.  The stuffed animal I use in these pictures is pretty close in appearance to Bear when he was a pup.  My stuffed pup is named, “Bear, Jr.”.  Without further ado, here is “Girl and Dog:  A Love Story” …
