Feeling Groovy

I was feeling a little like this before going to dinner last Saturday night …

Hippie Hound; src: hubpages.com

So, naturally, I pulled out my tie dye, cashmere sweater from Michael Kors …

It’s not really in my nature to dress quite as casually as Hippie Hound, so I paired the sweater with my pink, washed leather jacket from Burberry Prorsum; a magenta tweed, bow skirt from Forever 21; my favorite necklace from f21; and my brown, Ostrich Claw pumps from Gucci.

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I’ve had quite a time breaking in these pumps. I’m glad to say that they are (finally) getting more comfortable. A closeup …

I also wore Wolford Honeycomb tights in Mocca.

Peace, everybody! More soon. — Carole

The Banker’s Heart

I’ve talked a good game for some time (both here and elsewhere) about my Moschino Heart bag and today I deliver. It’s a great bag, but like most of my bags, I don’t carry it much. Perhaps I channel a bit of Carine Roitfeld, since I’m not much of a “bag girl” either. I call my bag “The Banker’s Heart” because it is black and heart shaped. :) Mr. Sasy and I used to walk past the sculpture with the same nickname back in the days we were spending quite a bit of time in San Francisco. Here’s a picture of the sculpture …

Here I wear “The Banker’s Heart” with a cream and dark gray Narciso Rodriguez sweater, and a Michael Kors charcoal gray skirt …

A closeup of the sweater …

The next part of this post is for Joelle at The Owls … It seems that she and I share a fondness for Stevie Nicks -style “wizard” sleeve garments. When Joelle asked me for photos of my “wizard” sleeve jacket, I got the jacket out of storage and snapped several pics of it for her. Here are the pictures of the J. Lindeberg jacket …

Here I show the trench-style jacket closed. Notice how when it’s fastened, the jacket’s buttons are hidden …

The “wizard” sleeve …

The back of the jacket with its cute “disco duck tail” pleating. Shake those tail feathers …

Since that untied belt lends itself so well to getting trapped in car doors, etc., this is how I usually wear it — tied in a bow …

Even the lining is done in what I think of as “Banker’s Tie silk” (though this lining is likely rayon or acetate), fitting in with my banker theme :)

This jacket is from 2004 or 2005 (IIRC) and I used to wear it all of the time. Truth be told, though the “wizard” sleeves look very cool, they are a major pain. They “drag” across everything, so I would usually cuff them up and THAT was not a very cool look. :)

And, finally, the shoes. I picked up these suede YSL booties at the most recent Saks 70% off sale …

I also wear Target ombre tights in charcoal gray & black, a J. Crew “dangling flowers” necklace, and vintage faux pearls.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading. — Carole

Fashion Is Sculpture and A Broken Resolution

It’s no secret that I love fashion with architectural and sculptural details and wear some today for us. I wear a vintage Gianfranco Ferre skirt, a Chloe blouse, and a necklace from Steven Dweck.

This Ferre skirt is one of my most cherished vintage treasures. It’s basically a pencil skirt with the most amazing diagonal ruffle. The ruffle also has zig-zag trapunto stitching. Though a straight trapunto stitch is common enough, I can’t recall ever seeing it done with a zig-zag stitch before. Here’s a closeup of the ruffle (and yes, I know that running the lint brush over myself wouldn’t have killed me :) ) …

I also show the ruched bishop sleeve detail on the Chloe blouse …

The Dweck necklace …

I never really make New Year’s resolutions, but do set general guidelines for myself (that may or may not coincide with a new year). Last month, I sort of thought that maybe I would eliminate or at least scale back greatly on black clothing and shoe purchases. You see, I seem to have quite a lot of black in my wardrobe and I don’t consider myself to be a person who willingly chooses to dress in black. Would you believe that only 2 or 3 years ago, I had practically no black in my wardrobe? Well, only three days into 2010, I bought a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood shoes in … yep, you guessed it … black.

Like “The Thinker”, I contemplate my shoe behavior …

So, what happened?

Was it the killer 65% off Nordstrom sale? Nope, I’m (mostly) great at sticking to my resolve.

Maybe it was the fact that shoes in my size aren’t the easiest things to acquire. That’s always a consideration.

Could it have been that Nicholas Kirkwood shoes are nearly impossible to get in suburbia? Nah, where there’s a will, there’s a way. :)

Most likely it was that I spotted this shoe & thought (without even knowing who the designer was), “What a cool shoe!” Ding, ding … we have a winner!

Ok. Enough thinking already and more pictures …

I have to admit I didn’t care much for Kirkwood’s designs when he burst onto the scene a few years ago. Lately, however, his sculptural aesthetic has caught my eye. I would definitely consider more of his work and I’m going to enjoy these shoes completely.

OTK Boot Love

If you’re a regular reader, then you know I’ve spent quite a bit of time in my Topshop Britany2 OTKs this season. I feel a little bad that my very first pair of OTKs has seen no love from me this fall. With that in mind, I decided to break out my Moschino Cheap and Chic OTKs for a quiet dinner out last Saturday night.

I also wore a dress from D&G, a bow necklace from In God We Trust, and my pink Moschino Cheap and Chic ruffle coat (no picture in this post, but it’s in several other posts on my blog, so look around if you like). The dress has a lot of ruffle detail …

I *think* the boots are from Fall 2008 and though I wore them a good bit when they were new, they haven’t seen much action this season. Here’s a better picture …

A New Dress in a New Year

Happy New Year, Dear Readers!

I wanted to start 2010 off properly by wearing a “new” dress for New Year’s Eve. I wore a modified Nanette Lepore dress. It is a collaboration of sorts inspired by a Moschino dress from Spring 2008 that I wasn’t able to buy. The Moschino dress …

When it was in stores, I must have tried on the Moschino dress a half dozen times. So beautiful and ethereal, the dress’s color made my skin look so … sickly. For the kind of money that dress retailed for, it should make you look better, not worse, right? Anyway, I finally gave up the ghost. Even later, on second mark down, I couldn’t bring myself to buy it. It was so sad — the dress, once such a beauty, had become tired and shop worn. Apparently, it didn’t look good on anyone else either. I still think fondly of this dress, but know in my heart, it is hanging forlornly on a dirty rack in an outlet somewhere.

After trying on and studying the dress so many times, I decided that it could be made for me. With new hope, I found a Nanette Lepore “Epic Ottoman” dress (a suitable silhouette) on sale. It was much too large for me, but I felt like that would simply give my tailor more to work with. I procured the “sheer” (real name, organza), for the bottom layer, after many trips to the fabric store. It turns out that my idea (and clerks’ ideas) of “sheer” and my tailor’s were very different things. (Maybe I’ll learn to sew and make Casey some tutus with all the extra fabric I have.) I also was able to track down (finally) the horsehair braid (called “stiff”, by my tailor).

Anyway, after an unbelievable amount of time, all things considered, I had my dress. It’s not a 100% knock off, but I feel that it does embody the elements of the Moschino dress that I fell in love with. Plus, it is perfectly tailored to my body in a colorway that is much more flattering to my skin tone. It’s a pity that my photos of the dress came out so poorly because it is so very pretty in person (and with movement).

Detail …

I also wore Mikimoto pearls, given to me for one of my birthdays by Mr. Sasy, and Miu Miu shoes. I covered up with a red Moschino Cheap and Chic coat and carried a YSL bag.

Closeup of the coat …

Heart buttons …

The shoes …

I regret that I had time for only one coat of Chanel Jade; clearly, at least two are needed.

Did you know, that on December 31, 2009, we had a “Blue Moon”? The next time New Year’s Eve will fall on a Blue Moon is in 2028. Don’t worry, I got us a picture …

Blue Moon, December 31, 2009

And there’s someone else who’d like to wish you a “Happy New Year” …

It’s always such a treat for me when Casey will allow me to photograph her.

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole
