Phoenix Rising

Like many fashion lovers, I tend to have names for some of my more special garments. I call this coat, “Phoenix Rising”. As you can see from the coat’s pleated skirt, when I spread its “feathers”, it’s just like the mythical bird that never dies.

The trench coat is a super-heavy, coated, wool gabardine and is by Jean Paul Gaultier. I remembered that I have this coat after seeing some of the Gaultier for Target pictures that are all over the Web. Yes, I *do* get a bit absent-minded about some of the stuff that I have. :) I also know that it needs a trip to the tailor, but I’ve been very reluctant to allow anyone else to touch this amazing garment. I actually have a few items I feel that strongly about. So, I may get the coat tailored or I may not. I’ll have to think about it. Here’s a view from the front …

Underneath the coat I wear a Rodarte for Target lace cardigan, a belt from Akris, a top from Target, a camisole under the top from Vivienne Tam, a skirt from Forever 21, Wolford tights, and my YSL booties, which are currently my favorite shoes.

Under the cardigan …

When I get the time, I like to read action/suspense fiction. As I was reading one such book, I came across the name, Gianni Agnelli, as the author was setting up the plot.

I looked up the late Gianni Agnelli and discovered that he was an Italian industrialist (Fiat) and Fashion icon. Askmen.com did a feature on him and if you’re interested, here is the link. One of his “quirks” was to wear his watch on the outside of his shirt cuff. I took my inspiration for today’s post from him and wore my Michele watch over my cardigan cuff …

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole

  1. I love your trench coat and I think it looks great on you the way it is. I would not send it to a tailor either. I don’t trust them. I got one thing tailored about 6 months ago and they made it smaller in the wrong spot and when I came back it still fit, but had the same problem that I originally wanted fixed. I had to go back twice for them to get it right. Ugh. I am paranoid about my stuff as well. I wish I could find a great tailor. You look amazing and I like the watch on the cuff of the cardi. xoxo

  2. The “skirt” on the trench is amazing! You look so great in full skirts. I’m another gal who is timid when it comes to tailors – or even the dry cleaners! I’ll still and obsess about the item, wondering if it’s still okay until it’s back in my hands. It’s terrible (and also the reason why I hand wash most of my “dry clean only” items). I love the idea of wearing a watch on the outside of a sleeve. We all put so much effort into choosing a perfect watch. Why cover it up?

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!
