Dress Palooza — 2009 Holiday Edition

Season’s Greetings! I haven’t been around here in a little while, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about you, Dear Readers. As promised, I have my 2009 holiday outfits ready for posting.

First up is what I call, “Americans and Italians in Space.” I wore a Moschino dress and Topshop Britany2 OTK suede boots a few nights ago and had a large time.

Check out all of the “sewing notions” on here which form the “traditional Moschino iconography”. Fran Drescher wore an identical dress on the t.v. show, “The Nanny.” She wore the matching jacket with hers, but that would have been a little too much, even for me. :)

So, why do I title this section, “Americans and Italians in Space?” Well, you see, Buzz and I were just hanging out on the moon …

Did you know that Emilio Pucci designed a flag for planting on the moon? It was carried by the Apollo 15 space crew. So, here, Buzz and I are the Americans and my Moschino dress is the Italian. Technically, Buzz Aldrin was part of the Apollo 11 space crew, so the flag in this picture was not a Pucci. :)

I also wore a coat from Akris Punto …

The next two outfits will be worn within the next few days to a couple of upcoming events. I call the first one “Winter’s Not a Wonderland … It’s Just Cold.” I have absolutely no right to complain about the cold temperatures here in the Bay Area … especially, after looking at the current US map of temperatures …

Anyway, I freeze in wear a black silk dress from Zac Posen. I considered this dress to be the most beautiful dress in the world when I bought it. I never thought that title would stand the test of time (especially at my rate of fashion consumption), but it does — I still consider it to be the most beautiful dress in the world. I realize, of course, that I look like a butterball in it, even the runway model looked like a butterball, but I’m OK with that — the dress is THAT pretty. You see, it has five, yes 5!!, layers of material. I also wear Wolford Harmony tights, Miu Miu Double Strap Mary Janes, and necklaces from Gucci and Roberto Coin.

Here I try to show dress movement …

Pleating detail on the bodice …

The butterfly necklace is Gucci and the circle is Roberto Coin …

I throw on a pink ruffle coat from Moschino Cheap and Chic and carry an “Eiffel Tower” bag from Timmy Woods. We’ll be at a French restaurant for this event, so I’ll get a kick out of carrying the Eiffel Tower. Lame, I know.

A closeup of the Timmy Woods bag …

And, some more silliness …

Finally, we have, “Paris Is Pretty.” In this series of photos, I wear a beaded leather and suede dress from Loewe. I love this dress — it is from the time period when Narciso Rodriguez was designing for the Spanish house and IIRC, Narciso was living in (and designing these collections from) Paris. His work is apparent in this piece — the tailoring is exquisite (just like all of his pieces). I also wear Target tights and Moschino satin “bow” shoes (a closeup of the shoes is available in my post called, “The Crow”).

Detail of the dress …

I throw on a Marni coat …

Oh my goodness! Who’s that in Paris?

I hope y’all enjoy this post as much as I did making it. More soon. — Carole

  3. Okay, several things:

    A) That Zac Posen dress is *amazing* and I wholeheartedly agree with you that it is the prettiest dress ever! Although not about the butterball part. I think you and I have different definitions of this word. You look incredible :)
    B) Love love the idea of all those cool sewing notions creating the Moschino icons. Genius.
    C) Your pink ruffley coat is so pretty — who is it by? And that Timmy Woods bag looks awesome — I remember you saying you got it before the SATC movie, huh?
    D) The shimmery beading on that Loewe dress is out of this world. Wow.
    E) I am so glad to see you posting again!! :) Hope life is treating you well.

    • Thanks, Anjali. You are too sweet to downplay my butterball-ness. The coat is Mosc C&C. And, yes, I got the bag before the movie at a seriously rock bottom price — those things were just languishing on the web site. Life is good & I hope yours is going well too. :)

  6. “Winter’s Not a Wonderland … It’s Just Cold.” – so, so true! I’m in that 7 degree portion!

Well, it looks like you had a lovely time traveling the world, er, universe during your Internet hiatus! And you had some beautiful outfits for the journey. The Zac Posen dress really is the most beautiful garment. Ever. (And you look nothing like a butterball!) And I think the Loewe dress is a close second!

And only Moschino could see the beauty in sewing notions.

    • Oh, hun, I don’t know how you manage to stay warm. I am shivering to death at mid-50s. I’m glad you enjoyed my “travels”. :) And thanks so very much for your lovely comments.

  7. I’m so jealous of your question mark dress. Patrick Kelly did a great question mark dress back in the day for Bette Davis.

    • Oh, my, I am going to have to look this up. I’ve seen the Patrick Kelly button dress (1980s) and THAT was spectacular. Thanks so much for coming by & commenting.

  8. great dress—and i can only imagine how the bag opens and what it can hold !

    Comment by Lorena — December 19, 2009 @ 8:09 pm | Reply

    • Thanks, Lorena. The bag opens easily — it has a “loop” at the top. You’re right about it holding almost nothing though!!
