Addendum to “Future Fashion”

Filed under: Fashion — SASY @ 2:26 am

Hello Dear Readers,

I received a few emails on my last post, “Future Fashion”. I know that if a few people decide to write me privately regarding a particular issue, many others are wondering the very same thing. The question of the moment boiled down to, “Why didn’t you “size down” in your shoes?”

To answer: First, there was no where to “size down” to. I bought the smallest size manufactured. I wear size 35 and always buy size 35. Most of the time, I don’t have any problems; but in brands that employ vanity sizing (as far too many do these days), I do have issues. Fortunately, I (usually) know ahead of time who does and who doesn’t vanity size. Still, for the right shoe, I don’t mind taking a bit of risk on a brand that is new or is unknown to me. Basically, I took a chance and it didn’t work out perfectly.

Second, this was my first experience buying this brand and I had some difficulty with receiving this order. With that in mind, I had no intention of dealing with any potential difficulties associated with a return. Thus, I made the decision to keep and wear them.

I do have some heavy duty padding in the shoes already, but will likely add more. Fortunately, the strap does a great job of holding them onto my feet, so there are no slipping out of the shoe issues. So, there you have the answer. :)

Well, it’s off to bed for me, especially since tomorrow evening will be a big night. Thanks for reading and there’s more to come soon. — Carole

Future Fashion

When putting together an outfit, I often begin with one piece and build everything else around that particular piece. Today’s piece is my “futuristic” United Nude shoes.

I became enamored with these shoes the first time I saw them and couldn’t decide if it was because of their futuristic vibe or the faceted cuts that make them look like jewels for the feet.

I decided to pair them with a navy and silver shift dress scored from the kids’ department. I feel it has an Yves Saint Laurent “Mondrian”-ish essence (except there’s no color blocking) and we all know what a visionary YSL was.

And to top everything off, I wear a silver (a color I associate with futuristic things :) ) trench coat from Couture Couture …

I also wear Wolford Honeycomb tights in Sahara.

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole

Late for the Rodarte for Target Train

Like everyone else on the planet, I saw the Rodarte for Target lookbook, long before the collection was slated to hit the stores. I have to say that I wasn’t very excited about the pieces based on what I’d seen or perhaps, it was the very Rodarte “poisoned femininity” styling. At any rate, I didn’t think I’d end up getting anything from Target’s newest Go collection. Surprise! I did and I show you some of it here.

The first two pieces I picked up were the tulle bow blouse and skirt …

Here’s how I wear it …

Details …

The next item I show you is this blouse that I call the “love child” blouse. I call it that because it looks like the spawn of two Erin Fetherston blouses. See?

What better to wear with my “love child” blouse than my Erin Fetherston “petal” skirt?

These items have arrived, but I haven’t tried them yet …

I must go for now as it’s been a tiring, but very enjoyable Christmas holiday. I hope yours was great too. Thank you for reading and I’ll have more soon. — Carole

Need A Little Christmas

During my life, from the time I was a kid until young adulthood, I was very involved in my local community theatre. “Mame” was my first play (Could this be why my fashion sense is so extravagant?, Is it Mame’s influence early in my life?). So naturally, every year at Christmas I must hear (many times, in fact) the song, “We Need a Little Christmas”. I’ve embedded a youtube video from 2007 where Angela Lansbury (the original Mame in the musical version) sings, “We Need A Little Christmas”, more than 40 years after she performed on Broadway. I found this video to be so charming (Ms. Lansbury forgets and flubs a few lines, but she’s Angela Lansbury and can do no wrong, right?). I hope you enjoy it too.

I wish all of my Christian readers, a “very Merry Christmas” and my non-Christian readers, “Happy Holidays”. May all of your hopes and dreams come true. — Carole

The Saturday Before Christmas Is The New Black Friday

Did you know that it is a myth (in terms of sales) that Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year? While foot traffic is certainly very high, many people do not buy on Black Friday. The trend in recent years, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers, is that the Saturday before Christmas generates more sales for retailers than Black Friday. That data is relevant for the years 1995 – 2002. In the years 2003 and beyond, 2003 and 2005 were anomalies and did see Black Friday as the big winner.

Anyway … I’m not foolish, brave, insane enough to go shopping today (nor do I on Black Friday), but I still have some last minute errands to finish before the holidays are upon us. A perfect excuse, if you ask me, to wear my new faux fur Juicy Couture jacket.

On a whim, I stopped in the Juicy Couture store to see if their “Couture Couture” line was still in production (it’s not, I’m sad to say — such a pity, it was amazingly well made and so adorable) and instead saw the most darling tiered faux fur jacket. This was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I have been dying to wear it ever since. I also wear a Chloe top and Forever 21 skinny pants.

Check out the thick pile of the faux fur …

And, I break out my new Miu Mius from Resort 2010 to wear …

Well, I’m off. See you soon. — Carole
