A Casual Outfit

Usually, I don’t bother photographing my casual outfits because I don’t find them too exciting, but I decided to post something simple today to change things up a bit.

I’m wearing a navy jacket from Balenciaga that I picked up in 2002 (IIRC), a Thakoon for Target tee, Forever 21 jeans, and Dries Van Noten booties.  Like the jacket, the booties are from a long time ago.  I picked them up at one of the Nordstrom “Caravan Sales” I love so well.

Kindly pardon the brevity of today’s post.  :)   That’s all for now.  More soon.  – Carole

You Only Live Twice

I liked the suede, Topshop Britany2, thigh-high boots so much, I got them in leather too!

I wear the boots with an ultra-conservative “top-portion” of the outfit.  The boucle skirt is from D&G and the sweater is Ralph Lauren.  The sweater is worn backwards here — you wouldn’t believe the ruffle overload on the other side — very Blair Waldorf’s last season, Bill Blass blouse.  I know you “Gossip Girl” fans will know immediately what I’m talking about!  :)   I thought about getting a picture of the back, but unfortunately, I just thought about it and didn’t shoot it.  However, I quickly found a picture of “Blair” in her blouse, so if you can imagine these ruffles as a knit rather than a fabric, it’s what the other side (technically, the front side) looks like …

Anyway,  I decided to go in a demure direction because the first thing that comes to mind with a thigh-high boot is “Pretty Woman”.  I’ve never seen that movie, but I believe I understand the gist of it and I have no desire to come off that way.

The second most common “thigh-high” boot scenario which comes to mind is a somewhat urban look, a la Anne Hathaway’s “The Devil Wears Prada” character.  There’s nothing wrong with that look, I simply wanted to do something a little more unexpected.  And, I think I did.

The Britany2 is very nice in either suede or leather, but I like the suede ones best.  Because of their texture, the suede ones are simply easier to wear.

I have to show you the cute pocket detail on the skirt that simply obliterated my will power to say, “No.” to purchasing this skirt.

It invokes such a “winter wonderland” feeling, doesn’t it?

Black & White Is Always Right

The weather has finally cooperated enough for me to pull out something I’ve been dying to wear …  my Moschino “Kill Bill” coat.  Being reminded of trompe l’oeil from the recent Moschino runway show for S/S 2010 jogged my memory into remembering my coat.  I adore trompe l’oeil, when it’s done well, and no one does trompe l’oeil as well as Moschino.

With such a statement-making garment, I keep everything else fairly simple.  I wear under the coat, a vintage blouse and a skirt from Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti.

I also wear vintage faux pearls, a chain from Elizabeth Showers, and a “dangling flower” necklace from J. Crew.

The “Kill Bill” coat in black with white colorway.  The one in the movie was white with black.

The trompe l’oeil continues onto the back of the coat.  Kindly excuse my uncombed hair :)

And the shoes are Balenciaga “turn lock” pumps …

The Great Pumpkin

As much as I love this Chloe skirt, you’d think I’d try and wear it more often.  Well, tonight I started.   :)

As you can see, the silk skirt is a lovely pumpkin color.  Technically, the color is saffron, but … pumpkin, saffron, what’s the difference really?  I also wore a vintage sweater from the 80s, bracelets from f21, and Pierre Hardy shoes.

Another view of the skirt & sweater …

Here are the shoes …

It’s been a long day and evening so it’s time for me to hit the sack.  See you soon.   — Carole

More From Last Weekend

Last Saturday night was a casual outing for us, so I went casual too.  As you might have noticed (if you’re a regular reader), I’ve developed a fairly serious fondness for Forever 21.  I wore a blouse and necklace from there, along with my no name cardigan, and a Moschino boucle skirt.  Also, I wore my new Alexandre Birman booties and socks, since my feet get cold easily.  Yes, I believe I must have been a male tourist in Hawaii in a previous life.  :)

Blouse detail …

And the shoes …

I love these little booties.  They are covered in grommets and zip up the front.  I feel like such a tough girl. lol
