J. Crew Moon Tank Dress and a New Everyday Bag

Sorry I’ve been temporarily absent — that pesky work thing gets in the way sometimes. I did have a bit of free time this week and I spent it shopping. :) As you might expect, I picked up a couple of new things I’d like to share with you in this post. If you read my blog regularly, you know that J. Crew is like a brand new candy store to me. I also experience Tous for the first time.

This is the J. Crew Moon Tank Dress. That’s the name they printed on the receipt, anyway. I have been unable to find this on the J. Crew site or in their catalog, so it is possibly an in-store item only. It’s a wool blend and is perfect for Bay Area climates. It’s fairly thin so I can wear it now comfortably. Later, when fall is here, it will make an excellent layering piece.  The dress also has two cute little pockets on the front and a ribbed band at the bottom, which I like.

Next up is a new bag.  I’ve been looking for a new everyday bag for some time because the one I’ve been carrying (though very nice) is HUGE and you know what that means … I end up putting everything in there.  My current bag is so heavy now, it’s about to break my back.  At any rate, I’ve wanted a Tous “bear” bag for a year or so and was very pleasantly surprised to discover there’s a Tous store (two actually that I know of) in my backyard. Here she is …

Isn’t she cute? I love quirky bags and this one fits the bill.

I wear Chloe shoes and a necklace from Forever 21, as well.

That’s all for now. I promise I will answer emails within the next couple of days. More to come soon. — Carole

Not A Hipster

In today’s post, I poke fun at hipsters. You see, it kills me when I see people, who don’t need glasses, wearing glasses to affect a cool look. I don’t think there’s anything cool about needing glasses. They are terribly uncomfortable and give me headaches, so I only wear mine when I actually have to see things (except in this post because I want to coordinate with Hello Kitty :) ). (An aside to fellow Bay Area drivers: I always, always, always wear prescription sunglasses when driving, so no worries. Another aside: If you see me out and want to say, “Hello”, please come very close to me so that I can see you.)

Anyway, on one of the boards I like to hang out on, a member posted this adorable Hello Kitty shirt from Forever 21 (thanks piratebooti). Living in Silicon Valley and being the geek that I am, I had to have it.

I wear my necessary glasses and Hello Kitty with jeans also from Forever 21, a Miu Miu bow satchel, and Balmain sandals.

Here’s the f21 stock picture …

And if you want one too, you can buy it here.

I am taking off my glasses now and going to go pick up a pizza. Thanks for reading and see you soon. — Carole

Where Flowers Bloom So Does Hope

I quote Lady Bird Johnson in tonight’s post title. The reason I use this quote is that when I took these pictures, I had hope they would turn out well. Frankly, they never turn out as well as I hope, but tonight’s were (mostly) quite bad. So I did what any self respecting blogger would do … I cut off my head in most of them. Oh, um, yes, and I also use this quote because my coat has flowers all over it. Let’s take a look, shall we?

This is a coat by Moschino that I’ve had for a very long time and just now got around to wearing. It was one of those items I had to have and after I got it, I forgot about it. Sometimes I think it’s all about the hunt, never the kill.

Underneath I wear a Target dress, a Peter Som belt, a Roberto Coin necklace (which I do wear a lot), and Alexander McQueen shoes (also an item in very heavy rotation).

And now for some detail shots …

The coat is a medium-weight cotton boucle covered in silk flower appliques in red, pale taupe, and white. Truly, one of my all time favorite color combinations.

The dress is an inexpensive little rag I picked up at Target a couple of months ago. I wasn’t sure I was going to wear it … ever. You see, a week or two after I bought it, I saw a girl wearing it and it really, really looked … well, not good on her. Maybe she just wore the wrong size or accessories or … something. Still, I had to think about it for a while. I decide to wear it, after all, and belt it with a Peter Som belt.

And finally, I really liked this picture, but I had the dorkiest expression on my face, so I performed a little cropping surgery …

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole

Shoot and Run #2

Another very quick outfit post tonight … I wear a Valentino Roma cardigan in drk forest green over a Moschino Cheap and Chic ruffle dress, Miu Miu mary janes, and a vintage bag in a biscuit color.

I have more posts coming soon. Thanks again for reading. — Carole

Stanford Shopping Center, Palo Alto, California

It’s really crowded in here, I think.
Do I squeeze my way in too?
Uh, how could I forget that Thursday evenings are “Summer Jazz” concert nights?

The scene is J. Crew and it is filled wall-to-wall with women browsing and shopping until the jazz concert begins. Is it always this crowded? You see, I’ve never been to J. Crew before, unless I fell down and smacked my little head on the pavement and can’t recall :) , so I didn’t really know what to expect. Even though they have many lovely things, I never felt a strong urge to go there until I saw some of their Fall 2009 pictures at various online sites. I like what they are doing with their accessories, in particular, and THAT was what it took to get my attention. I always feel like I’m a little lean on fashion jewelry, so I bravely ventured into the crowded store.

I saw many cute items. I saw this …

available here –> J. Crew Ribbon Top and immediately recalled these prior seasons’ looks that I love …

I bought the top and tried it on like this …

In the next picture, Mr. Sasy asks, “Are you going to work on a crab boat in that?” Of course, I respond, “Cool, I must have some Prada, Fall 2009, action happening!”

But, as you can see from the following Prada runway pictures, I’m not quite there yet. (Thank goodness) :)

In this try on post, I also wear a Michael Kors skirt, a Tom Binns safety pin bracelet, over knee socks from Wolford (Alaska), and Motorcycle boots from Target. I picked up these cute little boots about 3 months ago on clearance. I am v. excited about wearing them this fall. And here’s their closeup …

Anyway, not only did I buy the ribbon top (which I’m not 100% sure about keeping — it is a little boxy and very long), I picked up a pretty necklace with dangling daisies that I wear in the post immediately below this one. So, even if I don’t keep the ribbon top, I did meet my pick up some fashion jewelry goal, after all. :)

To close, I call this post “Impure” because I am no longer a J. Crew virgin. tbh, I secretly fear that I’ve crossed over to the dark side.

Thanks for reading. More soon. — Carole
