New From J. Crew

So, I was weak (again) and succumbed to the money pit also known as J. Crew. My package arrived a couple of days ago and I try it on for both me and you. :)

I purchased two items — the Prancing Peonies skirt from the Crewcuts section and the Ochre Ikat skirt, a sale item that originally came out in the spring. When I first created this blog entry, I had included pictures of the Prancing Peonies skirt, but have decided to exclude those.

I first saw the Prancing Peonies skirt on the J. Crew website and thought it could look so romantic and ethereal, in an early season Olivier Theyskens for Rochas kind of way. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. Since the Prancing Peonies skirt is a fail, it will be returned.

Luckily, the Ochre Ikat skirt is a win and here it is …

I first became intrigued with the Ochre Ikat skirt around the end of May (and discussed how I would style it, if I owned it, in the lovely Gigi’s comments here).  As you can see (if you clicked through), I followed my own advice and wear the skirt with a pin-tucked blouse from Bamford, a necklace from Devon Leigh (what I seem to wear when I’m not wearing my other favorite necklace), a belt from Miu Miu, and my often worn Alexander McQueen Mary Jane pumps.

I will keep this skirt definitely — not only because I like it but because it was final sale. :)

So, one for me and one for the return heap — not too bad considering I purchased both of these items sight unseen.

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole

  1. Oh no, what was wrong with the Prancing Peony skirt!? I remember it because I was so envious of all the cute frilly Crewcuts skirts out this season that were not offered in the regular women’s line.

The Ochre skirt looks great btw! Love the combo of yellow, white, and red.

    • Not really anything “wrong” with the PP skirt — I just felt like, at least in the pictures I took, I looked like a butterball. I’m glad you like the color combo I did here. I became a little obsessed with doing a mustard/cherry color combo and waited all season long to finally do it. I guess you could say it’s my version of your green obsession. :)

    • Thank you, Laura. I waited all season long to pick it up on sale and was starting to get concerned that it had sold out at full price. I got lucky, I think.

  4. Actually I always like the way RED color can subtly instil a sulfurous twist on any outfit, just like the “Working Girl-esque” Sensuality of your skirt’s cleavage . . .
ps: Dear Carole, Mmmh even if you’re far to be concerned about the age, It Frankly would be a constructive Pleasure to have your opinion about my last “stilettostetico-esque” post !!!
