Gone Shopping

Filed under: Fashion — SASY @ 4:42 pm

This is like “Gone Fishing”, except I know from the start I’ll reel in a much better catch. Anyway, I’ll be back shortly with more outfit posts. Thanks always for checking in with me. — Carole

New From J. Crew

So, I was weak (again) and succumbed to the money pit also known as J. Crew. My package arrived a couple of days ago and I try it on for both me and you. :)

I purchased two items — the Prancing Peonies skirt from the Crewcuts section and the Ochre Ikat skirt, a sale item that originally came out in the spring. When I first created this blog entry, I had included pictures of the Prancing Peonies skirt, but have decided to exclude those.

I first saw the Prancing Peonies skirt on the J. Crew website and thought it could look so romantic and ethereal, in an early season Olivier Theyskens for Rochas kind of way. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. Since the Prancing Peonies skirt is a fail, it will be returned.

Luckily, the Ochre Ikat skirt is a win and here it is …

I first became intrigued with the Ochre Ikat skirt around the end of May (and discussed how I would style it, if I owned it, in the lovely Gigi’s comments here).  As you can see (if you clicked through), I followed my own advice and wear the skirt with a pin-tucked blouse from Bamford, a necklace from Devon Leigh (what I seem to wear when I’m not wearing my other favorite necklace), a belt from Miu Miu, and my often worn Alexander McQueen Mary Jane pumps.

I will keep this skirt definitely — not only because I like it but because it was final sale. :)

So, one for me and one for the return heap — not too bad considering I purchased both of these items sight unseen.

That’s all for now. See you soon. — Carole

J. Crew Is Not My Boyfriend

No doubt, the J. Crew Boyfriend Jacket (and its styling) is a cute look. Yet, something has been nagging at me about the jacket. After thinking about it a little, I decided that what’s bothering me about the boyfriend jacket is that it’s basically nothing more than a classic suit jacket (and so are the J. Crew Schoolboy Jackets). Once upon a time, I had to suffer the indignity of wearing suits for my career. That’s no longer the case, thank goodness. Still, the damage has been done. :) Thus, it’s likely that I’ll never wear this IRL.

Since I am a major pack rat, I dug through my old suits and came up with a Ralph Lauren jacket that is nearly a deadringer for the J. Crew version. I play around with it and do my version of the “Boyfriend/Schoolboy Jacket”…

A schoolboy needs a vintage Coach backpack …

Details …

I over-expose the jacket picture for clarity.

I also wear with the RL jacket and vintage Coach backpack, a black ruffle blouse with rhinestone buttons from Cynthia Vincent Twelfth Street, a skirt from Topshop, a Target rhinestone necklace as a bracelet, and fuschia (with purple velvet bows) Marc Jacobs slingbacks.

I recently received a package from J. Crew and its related post is coming soon. TTYL, Carole

Be Still My Heart

One of the best things about Moschino and its related brands is that Rosella Jardini, Creative Director for Moschino, has kept Franco’s iconic symbols of the house alive.  Symbols such as the heart, the exclamation point, the question mark, the peace sign, and the duck continue to grace many of the clothes, shoes, and accessories of the Moschino brands.  I enjoy the whimsey, originality, and great fit of the designs, and consequently, attempt to acquire several pieces each season.

One day while at Nordstrom, I saw the most adorable red dress with fuschia hearts and knew it had to be mine …

I wear the Moschino Cheap and Chic dress with a Roberto Coin necklace that I wear *all* of the time, a Forever 21 bangle, and gold glitter platform sandals from Miu Miu.

To keep warm, I covered up with a faux lynx coat I picked up two or three years ago from the kids’ department at Neiman’s …

As I mentioned earlier, I try to get a few Moschino items each season. Sometimes, though, some pieces elude me. The next two pictures are some of the ones that got away …

Lovely Readers, if you see either the “Globe Bag” or the “Doggie Bag”, would you kindly let me know? I’m not sure if the “Doggie Bag” went into production, but several colorways were shown on the runway. Any colorway would be terrific!

I leave you with some images of the new Maison Moschino Hotel and a whimsical Chrismas window from one of the Moschino Boutiques …

Spaghetti Opportunity

Filed under: Fashion — SASY @ 2:11 am

Last night, I talked Mr. Sasy into going for dinner at one of my favorite little Italian restaurants. I could very happily live on fresh whole wheat pasta smothered in rich, spicy marinara every day for the rest of my life, but it’s not always an easy sell to Mr. Sasy, who needs far more culinary variety. Hence, it’s a pretty big deal to me when I get a spaghetti opportunity.

Anyway, since I was far more excited about food than fashion last evening (blasphemous, I know), my clothes took a bit of a back seat and were very simple and effortless. Also, another important reason for the simplicity is that I mixed stripes (from the sweater) and flowers (on the shoes).

I wore an Easton Pearson sweater, a Tahari skirt, Alexandra Neel shoes, and no-name bracelets made of painted nuts.

If you look very closely in the picture, you can see that the skirt is actually two layers — the bottom layer is a sage green silk (the same green as the shoes) and the top layer is a smokey metal-blend fabric. I really like that the top-layer fabric crinkles because the more it crinkles, the better it looks.

I didn’t get a good shot of the shoes while I was still in them so I took a picture of them after we got back. Here they are …

That’s all for now. I will post more soon. Thanks for reading. — Carole
