and making it seem worthwhile … I’ve twisted the words a bit, but I’m using some of the the opening theme lyrics from the “Mary Tyler Moore” show, which is a tv sitcom originally airing in the 1970s. I recently watched a couple of episodes on hulu and was struck by how contemporary most of Mary, Rhoda, and Phyllis’ clothing is. Here are a few pictures from the show (all MTM pictures sourced from mptv, in case you can’t tell by their giant watermark)
Mary’s shearling coat here is oh-so-similar to a Dior shearling I bought a couple of years ago and will break out this fall.
This look is my current favorite. Check out Mary’s two studded belts.
This dress is so Pucci. Of course, it might actually *be* Pucci, as the 70s were a heyday for Pucci (and Missoni too).
Take notice of Rhoda’s statement necklaces.
Mary in a jumpsuit. So right now.
Mary wears the color orange. Orange has been such an important color this season (and last season too).
I really like the second picture of Mary in the dress with two belts and since I already have the goods on hand, I (somewhat) recreate the look here …

I wear a M Missoni-esque dress from Target, two belts from Target, Martin Margiela boots, and a Roberto Coin necklace. Here’s a close up of the necklace and belts …

Thanks for reading and I’ll see you soon. — Carole

I’ve been positively DYING to watch some MTM lately. I don’t even know where I can catch it, but I need to see it. Mary and Rhoda, Betty White as Sue Anne Nivens…gah, I may even need to invest in some DVDs if it’s not currently on TV Land or the like! At any rate, thanks for paying some homage to it on your blog…it’s such a great show with amazing style to boot. **tosses beret in the air**

Thanks Erin for your comment. I agree it *is* a great show — quintessential “feel good” tv. hulu.com has the first 3 seasons up for viewing.

Mmmh Actually I think that Vintage aesthetics is virulently Timeless, because it can inspire a lot of “contemporary Revivals”, AND it sounds as such a “wrong stylish paradox” . . .
ps: I really like the “Western’s vibrancy” of the double belt crossing !!!!
re-ps: Thanks INFINITELY for your comments on “stilettostetico” Carole, a Real Pleasure !!!
