The Day After

I have yet to be brave (or fool) enough to go shopping on Black Friday.  Instead, I saved it all up for today, “The Day After”.  It was a really beautiful day to head into San Francisco and … just as important, there’s a lot of great stuff out there!  When my new items arrive (I always try to have them shipped so I don’t have to lug everything around), I will create some new looks and photograph them for posting.  On today’s outing, I wore a YSL bishop sleeve sweater, a Derek Lam skirt, and Moschino shoes.

Happy Early Thanksgiving!

It’s that time of year again — a time for giving thanks for my fabulous family and community I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with.  Not that I’m not appreciative of them all of the time, because I am, but Thanksgiving really seems to draw more focus to all of life’s good things.

With my family tonight, I wear an Isaac Mizrahi for Target sweater, a Derek Lam skirt, Hue tights, Cacharel fringe booties, and a scarf from D&G.  I’ll be losing the scarf pretty early tonight — it’s mostly for the start of the evening.

My Cacharel booties are from 2005 (I think) and are reminiscent of this season’s Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain version.  Without a doubt, the Zanottis are sexier than mine, but were too similar for me to have justified buying them earlier this fall.

Time to go for now.  I wish all of you a very wonderful Thanksgiving.  More posts are coming soon.  Thanks again for reading.

The Skirt That Almost Got Away

Theres no place like home. -- Wizard of Oz

"There's no place like home." -- Wizard of Oz

This skirt is one of my most cherished items.  I stalked ebay for over 7 years and one day, it finally came up for auction.  It’s Moschino from their Wizard of Oz collection from many, many seasons ago.  Can you see the references?  The gray represents the “Tin Man” and the dog, of course, is “Toto”.

I chased after this thing like a dog after a pork chop when it first hit the stores, but that was during the dot com craze and it sold out before even hitting sales floors.  Those days were so crazy — waiting lists that *really* were from demand, rather than the marketing ploy they have become.  Anyway, I promised myself that I would never get into a bidding war for an ebay item, but for this, I *had* to!

After a thorough dry cleaning, I wear “Toto” with a sweater (underneath) from Target, a cropped sweater cardigan from Viktor and Rolf, a belt from I don’t remember who but it was a cheap one, and shoes from Moschino Cheap and Chic.  I feel that the shoes are so “Dorothy” and fit well with the Wizard of Oz vibe.  Oh, I almost forgot, I topped it with an orange coat from Andrew Gn to leave the house — could this be a reference to the “Cowardly Lion”, hmmm?  Either way, if you’re a regular reader of my blog, then you know that I’m absolutely crazy for red and orange at the moment.

Closet Raid

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know by now that I love to pull out old stuff I haven’t worn in ages and find a new way to wear it.  I especially love to do this because you can *always* be certain that no one else will be wearing anything similar to you.  I raided my closet and found this old Alexander McQueen lace skirt (from I *think* Fall 1999).  I forgot how much I adore the tiers of lace that go on forever.  I also pulled out an old Moschino Cheap and Chic cardigan and sweater set that has tiny silk flowers in orange running throughout.  The shoes, however, aren’t *that* old — I picked them up on sale last year.  They are metallic anthracite, woven leather and are from Moschino.  More posts are coming soon!

The Goal

Margiela Jeans, picture: style.com

I fell in love with these jeans when they were shown (September 2007 -ish) for Fashion Week Spring 2008.  When I found out they were going to sell for $500, my love affair waned.  That’s crazy, $500 for a few threads holding these things together!

In an attempt to get in touch with my inner craftinista, I bought a very cheap pair of jeans from Target and decided to give this look a try.  After reading through a couple of tutorials online, I sanded the jeans, then slashed like crazy.  They are not terribly close to the runway version, but a few more machine washings will take care of that.  Anyway, here is my effort at the Margiela jeans…

The Result

I also wear a top from Target, a Steven Dweck necklace, Alaia wedges, and Hue tights.
